Erica Wiseman is a recent PhD graduate from McGill University’s School of Information Science. Her thesis, entitled “The Institutionalization of Organizational Knowledge: Learning to Walk the Talk”, explored the processes through which an international mining company successfully implemented a cross-company environmental, health and safety management program. Her research was funded through a competitive three year doctoral research grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
Erica is currently an associate of the Sustainability Solutions Group, a cooperative consulting group that assists clients in integrating social, economic and ecologic priorities into their businesses. Erica has also worked with the Convention for Biological Diversity’s Business Focal Point manager and presented 2 articles at academic management conferences on the business case for corporate biodiversity management and the use of corporate biodiversity management as a social responsibility strategy.
In addition to her work on environmental issues, Erica has multiple years of consulting experience in the management of organizational knowledge. These projects have included, amongst others, studies of the value of networks for RDEE Canada, a network which focuses on economic development and employment of Francophones outside of Quebec; an assessment of knowledge sharing in the Defence and Research Development Canada’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological-Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Research and Technology Initiative (CRTI), a network of scientists and first responders whose mission is to increase Canada’s preparedness for CBRNE attacks; and the assessment and the development of organizational learning initiatives in Oxfam Quebec.
Erica acted as a collaborator on the grant application for, and is an active member of, the SSHRC seven year funded Canadian Business Ethics Research Network (CBERN) which links practitioners, academics, NGOs and the community at large who are interested in and are working on business ethics, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, triple bottom line and corporate governance research.
Through all of these activities Erica has developed and refined her consulting and research abilities and her writing skills. Her experiences and background knowledge of corporate social responsibility and sustainability issues allows her to confidently conduct high level research in a broad range of related sub-topics
